The Student Hotel Utrecht
The Student Hotel Utrecht
For The Student Hotel competition Utrecht I was responsible for the complete esthetical design in this architectural competition. Although we secured second place, the process was incredibly rewarding. The initial envelope was provided by the city’s urban designer, which I then developed into a full concept. The façades were entirely generated through procedural design techniques using RailClone.

The development above the bus station adds significant value to the overall urban composition of the station area.
The addition of new programming enhances the diversity, usability, and appeal of the site.
The Student Hotel serves as a vibrant meeting place for tourists, business travelers, students, young professionals, and food enthusiasts.
The active programming of public spaces and amenities at the building’s base, combined with its transparent architectural expression, contribute to a lively and inviting street-level presence.
The tower’s volumetric design is informed by the building heights of the surrounding urban fabric.
In doing so, a dialogue is created between the new tower and the existing urban context.
The setbacks within the volume generate a dynamic and varied appearance, while also providing light, air, and space within the composition.
The resulting terraces and outdoor spaces offer a rich layering of various types of exterior environments, each with its own unique experiential qualities.
